A museum-quality find for the serious flacon collector: the legendary 1919 "Subtilité" Buddha bottle, designed by the House of Baccarat for Houbigant.
This is an authentic, early 20th-century piece of French glass artistry. Unlike later imitations, this bottle features the crisp, heavy crystal mold work synonymous with Baccarat's golden era.
Incredibly, this bottle still contains approximately one-fifth of its original 1919 perfume. While the bottle is currently sealed, the presence of this century-old amber liquid adds immense historical value and "soul" to the piece, representing a rare olfactive time capsule.
The base bears the authentic acid-etched Baccarat France seal and the hand-etched number "77" (or "11").
Very good antique condition - the original glass stopper has broken off and remains lodged in the neck. This has created a tight seal for the remaining liquid, though there are tiny, age-related stress cracks at the neck as a result (two are slightly larger, please refer to photos).
Even with the missing top, the seated Buddha figure remains a powerful example of Art Deco "Japonisme" and looks stunning when backlit, highlighting the original perfume within.
