Antique Victorian crescent moon brooch with spectacular paste stone imitating diamonds and sapphires.
The crystal paste stones are cut manually and have such a high lustre. They sparkle like a fire in both daylight and artificial light.
The brooch setting is silver (unmarked) and initially could be worn both as a brooch and a hair accessory - a little tube detail on the rear side of the brooch was intended for the hair pin assembling.
Crescent moons were a popular motif in Victorian and later Edwardian jewellery, they are attributed to a number of meanings from feminine strength to changes or new chapters.
Original C-clasp and pin were damaged and replaced with a later produced pin at some point.
Great antique condition.
No hallmarks present.
Dimensions: 23mm x 21mm
Weight: 5g
Please note: Jewellery Box on photo is NOT included and was used for photoshoot purposes only.
