Step back in time with this exquisite Victorian-era needle case, whimsically shaped like a lady’s high-button boot, c. 1880s.
A true "treasure from the workbox," this piece is a testament to the Victorian love for functional items disguised as decorative novelties.
Crafted from a soft, moss-green silk velvet. It features a row of tiny metallic "buttons" along the side and is finished with a delicate twisted cord trim.
Lined in a cream-coloured silk, the case opens to reveal two "pages" of vibrant pink wool flannel with pinked (zigzag) edges. These wool pages were designed to hold needles securely while preventing rust.
For closure it retains its original red silk ribbon tie.
Great antique condition - this is an authentic antique, over 100 years old. It shows a graceful aged patina. The interior silk lining shows some "shattering" or splitting typical of Victorian silk, and the exterior velvet has some light surface wear and fading that adds to its historical character. Several antique needles are still pinned to the wool (please refer to the photos).
